Hygiene & daily care

Bathing with dignity

Bathing is tender territory. When we lead with warmth and choice, it becomes care instead of a chore — for both of you.

Set the scene

  1. Warm the room first and gather everything within reach so no one is left exposed.
  2. Offer choices: “Shower or a wash at the sink today?” Choice restores dignity.
  3. Use a non-slip mat, a shower chair, and a handheld sprayer if you have them.

During the bath

  1. Keep a towel over areas not being washed for warmth and privacy.
  2. Wash from cleanest to least clean, and check skin folds and the back as you go.
  3. Narrate gently and let them do whatever they can themselves.

A few tips

  • No-rinse cloths and dry shampoo are lifesavers on low-energy days — clean doesn’t always mean a full bath.
  • Two or three good baths a week is plenty; over-washing dries older skin.
How we help with the small things tells someone they still matter. That message is everything.
