Preventing pressure sores
Pressure sores are far easier to prevent than to heal. A rhythm of small repositions does most of the work.
Keep skin healthy
- Reposition at least every 2 hours in bed, every hour in a chair.
- Check skin daily at heels, hips, tailbone, elbows, and shoulder blades for redness that doesn’t fade.
- Keep skin clean and dry; moisturize dry areas and change damp clothing promptly.
- Use pillows to “bridge” pressure away from bony spots; keep sheets smooth and crumb-free.
A few tips
- Good hydration and protein help skin stay resilient — pair this with the nutrition guides.
When to get help
- Tell the clinician about any open area, blister, or redness that won’t fade — early care prevents a wound.
Tiny, steady care adds up to skin that stays whole. Rhythm is your ally.
